Paper drilling – in-line and off-line single and multi-head systems

According to Constantin Hang (exclusively represented by Friedheim International in the UK and Ireland), paper isn’t simply paper – it is a material that needs to be treated with the greatest respect – and that is why paper drilling at Hang isn’t simply paper drilling.  As a result of this respect, the company supplies a comprehensive product range, from a table-top drilling machine right up to a high-capacity automatic drilling system, thereby offering users the widest choice of equipment to suit almost all requirements!

Hang 113-00-DrillThe latest state-of-the-art technology is used by Hang in the construction of its drilling machines and drill heads, and this helps to make them reliable and long-lived.  And the company refuses to rest on its laurels: appreciating that there is a constant supply of new types of paper, Hang is constantly reacting to this by developing new kinds of drill qualities covering drilling power, heating, and wear and tear.  This commitment also extends to the offering of special customised solutions for specific user requirements.

In details, the drilling machines offered by Hang include the following:

SmartDrill – designated the 113-00, this is a table-top model that is ideal for offices, copy shops and in-house printing departments who require an efficient solution for production orders with standard hole patterns.  The SmartDrill features four drilling heads at a fixed distance of 80 mm, and it is capable of both 2-way and 4-way drilling, with diameters of between 3 mm and 8 mm.  The machines can also handle a maximum paper stack height of up to 56 mm.

114 range – an automatic paper drilling machine with four drilling heads, there are two models available in this range: the 114-00 and the 114-30.  Both models offer a drilling diameter of between 3mm and 14 mm, with hole distances between 36 mm and 260 mm.  Hole distance and drilling depth can be individually and easily adjusted with a few hand movements.  Both machines are also fitted with wheels for added mobility and flexibity, The 114-30 is additionally supplied with an infinitely variable drill speed of 260-1800 rpm, and accompanying digital drill speed indicator.

117 range – a two-spindle paper drilling machine that is ideally suited to short production runs, there are a number of different options available within this range.  The 117-00 and 117-01 versions are table-top units that require a hand operated drilling stroke, while the 117-10 and 117-11 version are free-standing machines that incorporate a powered spindle stroke.  The 00 and 10 machines feature a fixed table, while the 01 and 11 units are supplied with a sliding table for additional flexibility in the drilling operation.

Hang-114-00-4-DrillModels 240-00, 240-01 and 260-00 – these three machines are Hang’s top of the range models and all are multiple spindle paper drilling units.  They feature an integrated jogger and separately conveyed product feeding for added operational flexibility, and are ideal units for handling loose leaf paper as well as folded, sewed or glued pads.  Automatic format adjustment is standard, as is the electronically controlled adjustment of edge distance, which enhances drilling precision.

Besides the drilling machines mentioned above, Hang is well known for the manufacture of paper drill bits, which are all made from high quality steel and designed for long life.  There are five different types of drill bit in the current Hang range, each capable of handling different kinds of material:

Standard paper drill – ideal for drilling offset and copy paper.

Top paper drill – coated with tungsten carbide, the resultant extremely hard surface reduces general wear and tear.  Suitable for offset and copy paper, as well as paperboard.

Teflon® paper drill – coated with Teflon®, this is particularly suitable for drilling plastic material, foil and rubber or elastic products.  The resultant smooth coating helps to reduce the possibility of the drilled material from sticking to the drill bit.

Topslide paper drill – this drill is coated with both tungsten carbide and Teflon® particles, and as a result is especially suitable for drilling coated papers and cardboard.  The extreme hardness of its coating not only reduces wear and tear, but also the build up of heat and friction.

Titanium paper drill – particularly suitable for drilling plastic, foil and coated materials, this drill is coated with titanium which assists in reducing the problem of the drilled material sticking to the drill bit, as well as helping to increase the life of the drill bit by up to three times.
